St. Mary's Guild

The next meeting for St. Mary's Guild will be on Wednesday, February 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at Arrowhead Country Club. We will have short meeting and then eat buffet style at 11:30 a.m.. Hope all members will be able to join us. Thanks to Barbara Johnson for arranging this outing at Arrowhead. Call if you need directions.

St. Anne’s Guild

The February meeting of St. Anne's Guild will be held on Tuesday, February 14th, in McMaster Hall at 11:00 a.m., immediately following the Eucharist service in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. This is St. Anne's Valentine Luncheon, and we would love for you to join us. Hostesses for this meeting will be Ann Speaks, Claudene Thomas, and Bette. No reservation required but everyone is welcome. It is time to celebrate - come join us.

LIBRARY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

Please join the Library Sunday School for a lively discussion of the book, "Speaking Christian: Why Christian Words Have Lost Their Meaning and Power and How They Can Be Restored" by Marcus Borg. According to Borg, "Christian language has become a stumbling block in our time" and some words "have acquired meanings that are serious distortions of their biblical and traditional meanings." This book's purpose is "to help us read, hear, and inwardly digest Christian language without preconceived understandings getting in the way." The class meets at 9:00 in the Library and always welcomes visitors and newcomers. Books are available on the table as you come in the door of the Library. If interested, take one and pay Douglass Porter $15.50.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

The Annual Choir Pancake Supper will be held Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30 PM in McMaster Hall. The choir will be serving pancakes, sausage, bacon and all the trimmings for a delicious time together! Tickets will be $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 10 and under.

Ash Wednesday Schedule Wednesday, February 22 – Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes in the chapel at noon and 6 PM.

Lenten Study—Holy Conversations

During the interim period, the church has the opportunity to work through several developmental challenges in preparation for the arrival of a permanent rector. The Lenten studies will address these developmental tasks.

Coming to terms with the congregation’s history. Not just its relationship to clergy but everything in its story, especially anything that might need to be resolved before the arrival of a new rector.

Discovering a new identity, a new sense of mission. The context and the congregation both change during a rector’s tenure. Revisioning the future in light of those changes enables the congregation to make a more enlightened choice of a new rector.

Helping the congregation’s leadership to grow and change. The interim period is an excellent time to enlist new leadership and to give existing leaders permission to take a break or to change their areas of service.

Rediscovering linkages to the denomination. The parish sees the denomination primarily through the clergy’s eyes.

Establishing a new commitment between people and the new priest to engage in their mission together. The parish does not “hire” a rector. Rather, the interim period is a time of discernment of God’s direction out of which a call to a new rector arises. The interim rector seeks to facilitate the “hand off” to the new rector in a way that makes for a strong beginning.
