Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EFM) program provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." EFM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.
The program consists of theological reflection in a small-group setting. The groups meet weekly, usually over a nine-month period. The entire program requires four years for completion; however, students only commit to a year at a time. Many students find that their life situation will not permit a continuous four-year commitment, and EFM allows them to stop, then resume when they are able. Since the program is active in each U. S. diocese and in many international locations, students may begin in one location and complete the program in another.
Holy Comforter has supported EFM since its inception. Many of our members graduated from the program and went on to assume significant ministries within and outside of the parish. For additional information about EFM, call Mac Hall at 273-9318.
