American Sign Language Service
At 11:30 most Sunday mornings, the Eucharist is celebrated in the Chapel using American Sign Language. Most of the congregation are Deaf persons from the greater Montgomery area. There is no voice-over or spoken translation. Occasionally this congregation joins the larger Holy Comforter family for special services such as a bishop's visitation, and for some social activities.
The service is conducted by the Rev. Jay L. Croft, the forty-first Deaf person to be ordained in the Episcopal Church. He served Deaf congregations in New York City, Ohio, Maryland, Birmingham and Mobile before coming to Montgomery.
